man to man 开诚布公
人与人之间的沟通，看似简单，其实不容易，惟在“男子汉对男子汉（man to man）时，比较能够“坦诚以对”，“开诚布公”。
★ Man to man, I think you should admit your mistakes.
坦白说，我认为你应该承认自己的错误。
★ If we don’t agree to talk man to man, the whole meeting will have been wasted.
如果我们彼此不能开诚布公地谈，整个会议就都白白浪费了。
the next man任何一个人
学生时代，英文老师有时会请班上的同学起来做文法习题，一个同学做完习题后，老师要叫“下一位同学”起来接着做时，常说一声：Ｎext!。这句Next 的意思就是 The next student!。这句的the next man就等于“下一位”。“下一位”是哪一位呢？就是“我们周遭的任何一个人(anybody else) 的意思。如果说话的人是女性，则改为the next woman.
★ I am as glad as the next man to get something tree.
我跟任何人一样，都很乐意接受免费的东西。
★ I am as patriotic as the next man.
我和任何一个人都一样爱国。
the old man老爸、主管
膝下狲成群，或者在公司机构担任主管职位的男性，通常年龄一定不小，中文常称之为“老头子”，英文里则用the old man来代表家里的“老爸”或公司里的“主管”。但别记忘了，你可不能当着主管或老爸的面喊“老头子”呢！
★ It’s nice to treat the old man to something different for dinner when he gets home after a long day.
老爸上了一整天的班回来，晚餐该让他吃点不一样的东西。
★ We waited for 30 minutes outside his office until the old man had time to see us.
我们在主管的办公室的外面等了半个钟头才见到他。
Every man for himself各自逃命
地震、台风等天灾降临时，每个人都要只能照顾自己，哪有时间去管别人？这种各自逃命的情况，英文里称作every man for himself.
★ At time of a great natural calamity like a great earthquake, people just act according to their instincts and it’s every man for himself.
像大地震那样的大天灾发生时，人们只有凭本能各自照顾自己逃命了。
As one man全体一起
读小学、中学时，老师一进教室，班长会喊“起立！”，然后再喊“敬礼！”，全班学生就“好像一个人似的”(as one man)全体一起向老师致敬，然后再一声
|坐下！“，大家才坐下来上课。那种井然有序的上课情况，似乎到了大专院校就不复见。
★ The member of the basketball team came forward as one man to welcome their new coach.
全体篮球队员一起走到前面来迎接他们的新教练。
★ All the people got up as one man to show their respect.
全场的人都一起站起来表示尊敬。
to be one’s own man自己做主
在英文里，be one’s own man（自己做主）相当于be one’s own master9作自己的老板，也就是“自己拥有自主权”的意思。
★ Clearly Neil relishes the freedom, the life, the business of being his own man.
很明显的，尼尔很喜欢这种自己做主的自由、生活和事业。
★ His expression hardened at the thought of working for somebody else, of no longer being his own master.
想到再也不能自己当老板而要去替别人工作时，他的表情僵了。
