关于英语end 与every 的英语口语的用法
End (或 go up) in smoke 烟消云散；不成功，成为泡影
指一个人所期望的闪亮火焰消失了。
【例】he made a big to do at the start and spent pounds and pounds, but you see it has all ended in smoke.一开始他就大肆喧哗，并一再花钱，可是您瞧，毫无结果
End of one’s tether忍无可忍；山穷水尽；智穷力竭
原指缚在绳索上的家畜，可以再绳索长度范围内啃草，但不能自己走出超过绳索的长度范围。一般用于下列句子中：be at the end of one’s tether,或reach the ead of one’s tether.
【例】if you ask me ,I think they are at the end of their tether. Another strain upon their business means bankruptcy for them.你若问我，我认为他们已到山穷水尽的地步了。他们的经营再受到一次压力就会破产。
Enough to make a saint swear[口]足以使圣人诅咒；足以令人恼怒
美国剧作家佛朗西斯.博蒙特和弗莱彻在一六二O年合写的《菲拉斯特》中首先使用这条成语。
【例】the remonstrances I have received have been enough to make a saint swear.我所受到的种种训诫什么人也吃不消。

这里的every据说是ever的讹用，同样错用every的还有every so often（不时，时常）。有时用again代替then
【例】1.last night ,every now and then, his baby cried out in his sleep.昨夜他的婴儿常常在睡眠中大喊起来。
2.as we watched the sea, every now and again we caught the flash of the strange sea creature’s fins.我们观看大海时，不时看到那个奇异的海洋动物的鳍一闪而过。

原来是美语，用于词句之后以加强语气，很少用来指时间。
【例】1.that team wins every time.那个球队每战必胜。

3.i prefer him every time.我总是喜欢他。
