Moddals of daduction in the Present 推测现在行为的情态动词
must表示肯定,can’t表示否定。
肯定的推测:must
He’s speaking with an American accent.
He must be American. 他说话带有美国口音。他肯定是美国人。(=我确信他是美国人。)
That woman knows where the post office is.
She must live here. 那个女人知道邮局在哪里。她肯定居住在这儿。(=我确信她住在这里。)
否定的推测:can’t
He’s speaking with a French accent. He can’t be American.
他讲话带有法国口音。 他不可能是美国人。(=我确信他不是美国人。)
That woman doesn’t know the post officed is. She can’t live here.
那个女人不知道邮局在哪儿。她不可能住在这儿。(=我确信她没有住在这里。)
现在的可能性:may, might, could
有时,我们不能绝对断定的时候,更倾向于使用“可能是……的吧”或者是“可能并不是……的吧”之类的表达。 那
么,我们可以用may, might, could 或者may not和might not.
推测的确信程度的顺序
现在时中我们可以根据确信程度的大小来给表示推测的表达方法排列顺序。
1. 表示强烈的肯定语气
This must be the best hotel in town.
2. 表示可能性性的肯定语气
might
This may be the most expensive hotel in town.
could
3. 表示可能性的否定语气
might not
The be the most expensive hotel in town.
may not
4. 表示强烈的否定语气
This can’t be the best hotel in town.
对于某一推测表示疑问
对于以某件事为根据进行的推测表示疑问时,最常用的表达就是使用could 和might.
This be the most expensive hotel in town?
Could that man be American?
Might that nwoman liuve here?
Modals of Deduction in tge Past 推测过去行为的情态动词
对过去发生的事情做出推测的时候,肯定可以用must have+ f过去分词,否定句可以用can’t have = 过去分词。
肯定的推测;must have
She knew all the best places to go to in London. .她知道伦敦的所有最好的地方。
She must have lived there before. 她肯定以前住在那儿。(=我十分确信她以前就住在那个地方。)
He died with a smile on his face. He must have been happy.他微笑着死去。他肯定很快乐。(+我非常确定他生前很幸福。)
否定的推测: can’t have
That woman didn’t know anything about London. She can’t have lived there.
那个女人对伦敦一无所知。她不可能在那儿住过。(= 我十分确信她并没有在那里住过。)
I saw him in the supermarket this morning . He can’t have gone on holiday.
我今天早上在超市看见他了。他肯定没有去度假。(=我非常确定没有去休假旅行。)
He didn’t get very good marks in this exams. Hecan’t have studied very hard.
